The inspiration for 3rd January was :
“What’s the 11th item on your bucket list?”
If “Bucket List” a new term to you, a Bucket List is a list of things that you want to do before you “kick the bucket”. There are a load of websites out there that help you compile and share your ideas, and also track how you are doing on accomplishing your list.
I will admit it’s never really been my sort of thing but there are loads of people out there who take a lot of time over it and enjoy sharing their ideas with others. If it’s your sort of thing then head over to Bucketlist.org and set one up!
The reason that it has never been something I am interested in is once again connected to my depression. Day by day can be a struggle all of it’s own. Making a list of things that you would dearly love to do one day pretty much sets you up for a fall as the next time you look at it you could well be in the state of mind that says “I will never be able to do any of those things, what’s the f%^king point”
So, in the absence of an actual list, let’s see if I can think of something that fills the void….
One thing I have always been interested in, and even tried a few times (before getting disenchanted and giving up) is programming. I have learned (and subsequently forgotten) HTML a few times over the years. Having a family means that the time required for such things is minimal, but that shouldn’t stop someone attaining their dreams (I was reminded of this by someone very recently, it’s a great piece of advice that goes something like “Don’t not do something because of the time it will take, the time will pass anyway…”).
Another thing that I could mention is another learning related dream. Ever since I first read Shogun in the 90’s sometime I have wanted to learn Japanese. The snippets you get in the book along with the historical context and cultural information are fascinating. It’s a wonderful language and so very different from my native English that it would be a real challenge. The wish to learn such a challenging language is also bolstered by my love of Japanese cinema and Anime; it would be fantastic to be able to watch without subtitles!
So there are two things that would probably answer the question, position in the list notwithstanding. I still do not plan to have a Bucket List as everything I said above still stands, but these are probably the closest things to one.
