A day behind already, this isn’t good. Althoughh in my defense it has been the holiday…
So the question for the 2nd January is “Have you ever made a resolution that you have kept to?“.
I think that the simple answer to this is “no”. I suspect I am not alone in this! The thing with resolutions (Especially New Year Resolutions) is that they tend to be grandiose, life changing things that are woefully over-specced for the task at hand. They are often entered into casually and without any real thought. Finally, there is usually no one to check on you except yourself. This last one is a killer for me. I am absolutely terrible at motivating myself, especially when it comes to the sort of subjects that New Year Resolutions are made of.
Last year I didn’t make any real resolutions, and it’s a good job because it’s been a hellish year for one reason and another, although 2014 is already looking up a little 🙂 Previous resolutions have usually revolved around weight, and every time I have made one I have failed miserably. Food is my BIG weakness, and lazyness is almost as big. Gluttony and Sloth go so well together, don’t you think?
So, this year I did give it some thought, and I came up with one that I think I can stick to. I am going to endeavour to not get involved in other peoples’ conversations at work. I am “that guy” who shouts across the office because he knows something about what is being talked about. I know it annoys the hell out of people so I am going to try and stop that and mind my own business a bit more.
Sound reasonable? I think so. I think it sounds like something I can actually do, and work at. I am going to make a little sticker to put on my monitor to remind me of it too, that should help.
